Info: Richard Paul Astley, better known as Rick Astley, is a british singer whois renown for his music pieces. He was born in Lanchester where after becoming a
musician after school, he would be awarded several music awards and titles across the globe.
Early Years: Rick's early years didn't really start as a singer but as a drummer for the soul
band FBI, it was only 3 years later when Rick became popular after joining with the production
trio Stock Aitken Waterman and published his first album "Whenever You Need Somebody" in 1987.
That same year, Rick Astleys most iconic song was debut which became a number 1 hit in 25 different
countries; "Never Gonna Give You Up" released in 1987 along side "Whenever You Need Somebody".
Accomplishments: Rick Astley has been awarded multiple official awards over the years including
the ASCAP Pop Music Award, BMI Award, Billboard Music Award, Brit Award, Classic Pop Reader Award,
Ivor Novello Award, MTV Europe Music Award, Music & Media Year-End Award, Smash Hit Poll Winners
Party, and was once nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008. Outside of official awards, Rick Astley
hasn't just been a famous singer, but also a world wide phenomenon with the creation of the internet
meme "RickRolling". This meme would garder most of Rick's popularity to where after only a year after
the meme was invented, Rick himself was voted "Best Act Ever" by internet viewers at the MTW 2008
Awards and was granted the win because of it. The original video for "Never Gonna Give You Up" which
was posted in October 2009, was so popular it reached 1 billion views by July 2021 and being the 4th
80's song to reach such a milestone. Even today the old Rick Roll meme is still alive and well 12 years
later, it's certain that the meme both to old users and new will be a timeless classic meme that'll last
generations and be remembered by so many people, and in the world we live in now; that type of honor and
award is higher than any Grammy Award or becoming President.
